H.E. Dr. Ines Abdel-Dayem

Minister of Culture, Egypt

Dr. Ines Abdel Dayem has been Egypt’s Minister of Culture since January 2018. She is a world-renowned flutist who studied the instrument at the Cairo Conservatoire from an early age. After completing her studies, she was an assistant professor in the flute department before serving as Dean of the Conservatoire between 2004 and 2010. She was Director of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra between 2003 and 2012, as well as Vice President of the Academy of Arts between 2009 and 2012. Abdel Dayem was recently elected as president of the Arab Academy of Music, an affiliate of the Arab League, after serving as Chairperson of the National Cultural Center – Cairo Opera House from 2012 to 2018.
She has performed in many concerts in France, including with the UNESCO International Orchestra in Paris and the Aix-en-Provence Orchestra. She has also performed as a flute soloist with the Conservatoire Orchestra and Cairo’s Symphony Orchestra in several Arab and European countries. She has been featured in several European radio programs, most notably at Radio France in Paris, as well as in international cultural events, festivals and conferences. Abdel Dayem has received several local and international awards, including first prize from the Association of Music Institutes in France (1982) and Egypt’s State Encouragement Award in Arts (2000).
Abdel Dayem holds a PhD in Music, specialized in the flute, from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.
