Professor Carlos Guedes
Associate Professor of Music, New York University Abu Dhabi, UAE

Carlos Guedes is a Portuguese composer, media artist, educator, and researcher, with a multi-faceted activity in composition and sound design.

His body of work spans numerous music commissions for contemporary dance, theatre, film, and interactive installations - in addition to traditional concert music. His research addresses the relationship between music and computational technologies in the creation of generative music systems for educational applications.

Since moving to the UAE, where he is Associate Professor of Music at NYU Abu Dhabi, Guedes has focused on the development of generative music systems, emulating styles from Carnatic music and music from the Gulf region through the Music and Sound Cultures Research Group, which he co-founded.

Guedes is currently a visiting scholar at the Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation, where he is developing a study on the musical traditions of the Shihuh.
