Selma Ćatović Hughes
Designer at American University of Sharjah, UAE

Born and raised in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Selma Ćatović Hughes has worked in the field of architecture and design for over 20 years after completing her Master’s degree in Architecture. The focus in her personal work has been influenced by the extraordinary circumstances she experienced while growing up in her war-torn home country. Intrigued by the concept of beauty, the ritual of (un)veiling and exploring the fine line between literal and phenomenal beauty, Hughes has experimented on a number of mixed media projects of different scales, materials, and functionality. She is currently an adjunct faculty at American University of Sharjah, and teaches Design Foundations in the School of Architecture.
